RAIGMORE HOSPITAL, INVERNESS
Applications are invited for a Consultant Urologist to be based at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness. The department currently has an establishment of five Consultants. This is an additional post bringing the consultant base up to six.
The Department services the needs of the population of the Highlands and Western Isles, the largest geographical health area in the UK. You will be working in the UK's most beautiful outdoor wilderness with unlimited scope for outdoor adventure activities. Inverness is an ideal place to settle with all the usual city amenities and excellent schools with the beauty of the Highlands and Islands on your doorstep.
The Urology unit is based at Raigmore Hospital where all major surgery and inpatient procedures are performed. Consultants usually undertake regular peripheral clinics and diagnostic work in the remote and rural hospitals in Oban, Wick, Stornoway, Broadford and Fort William.
The Department of Surgery and Urology will be expanding due to pressure of clinical activity and currently comprises fifteen surgeons with a full range of sub-specialties and five Urologists. The work of the Urology department has sub-specialist interests in upper tract laparoscopy, pelvic oncology, endourology and female Urology. Each Urologist also has a significant General Urology case load. A sub-specialist interest which complements those of the existing Urologists is desirable and upper tract laparoscopic expertise would be preferable. However a Urologist with a purely General Urology back ground would also be welcome. The on call commitment would be 1 in 6.
Raigmore Hospital is a Cancer Centre and offers a full range of secondary and tertiary services to the remote and rural areas of the Highlands and Islands and part of West Grampian. Back-up includes full diagnostic and interventional radiology, renal medicine, nuclear medicine, oncology and laboratory services. There are regular weekly MDTs in Urology and a good e-Health department. There is an active Postgraduate centre with a well-equipped library. There is an extensive undergraduate teaching programme with students from Aberdeen University and a significant commitment to teaching is expected. The Undergraduate Centre, affiliated to Aberdeen University, has video-conferencing facilities and a newly created Research Unit and Audit facility offering exciting academic opportunities.
The post is offered on the new Consultant Contract terms and conditions, on a 10 programmed activity basis although two EPAs may be available. Applicants must be on the Specialist Register or within six months of the anticipated award of a CCT at the time of interview for the post.
