Applications are invited from HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientists. You should already have either an IBMS Biomedical Science Diploma or Specialist Portfolio (Haematology). Applications for those who are near completing their portfolio or diploma will also be considered. Experience of working in a routine Blood Sciences department would be an advantage although Registered Biomedical Scientists having worked in Haematology only will be considered and appropriate training delivered. You will be expected to participate in the rotation throughout all areas of the laboratory including the haematology work. The post is based at Raigmore Hospital where you will be expected to work in a 24 hour shift system. The ability to work under pressure, a desire to learn new skills in all areas of Blood Sciences, and good communication skills are essential attributes.
The department is spread across three acute hospital sites at Fort William (Belford Hospital), Inverness (Raigmore Hospital) and Wick (Caithness General Hospital). It provides a diagnostic Blood Sciences service to a population of approximately 235,000 people in NHS Highland and receives in excess of 430,000 requests annually. In addition to the routine work, the department is a Haemophilia Centre providing a specialist coagulation repertoire.
The laboratory at Raigmore Hospital is fully automated with 3 x ADVIA 2120i's, 2 Advia 2400's, 2 Centaur XP's, and an Immulite attached to a Siemens Labcell. In addition there are 2 x Werfen Top 500 coagulation analysers, 2 TOSOH G8's and an Abbott Architect.
The department is registered by both HCPC and IBMS as a training laboratory and although it has CPA accreditation is working towards UKAS accreditation.
Participation in CPD activities is required and progression to attaining higher qualifications is encouraged.
