North of Scotland Paediatric, Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition Network
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated colleague to join the friendly dynamic department of Gastroenterology based within Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital (RACH). NHS Grampian provides healthcare services to children living in Grampian, Orkney and Shetland, with Foresterhill site encompassing Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, Aberdeen Maternity Hospital and Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital. The post has no sessional commitment to Medical Paediatrics. There may be the option to contribute to the General Paediatric on call rota should the successful candidate wish.
The North of Scotland Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition Network (NoSPGHANN) is a clinical service network providing Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (PGHAN) to a total population of ~1.3 million across the North of Scotland and Northern Isles.
This network ensures equity of access to these specialist services in Aberdeen (all services), Outpatient, Inpatient and Endoscopy services in Dundee as well as Outpatient and Inpatient services in Inverness. At present weekly clinics and Endoscopy (twice monthly) lists are held in Dundee and monthly clinics in Inverness, along with local Consultants with an interest in Gastroenterology.
A full tertiary service is provided at Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital with access to Endoscopy, full diagnostic services, Paediatric and Neonatal Surgery. Hepatology is provided through outreach from King's College Hospital, London. There are well established education and research links with colleagues in Glasgow and Edinburgh.
There is a Consultant of the week service, which supports the delivery of the Inpatient Gastroenterology service at RACH. Specialist Dietetic, Nursing, and Psychology support is available in all three centres.
The purpose built RACH accommodates 72 inpatient and 13 day case beds and provides a wide range of secondary and tertiary Paediatric Medical and Surgical services. The Medical School and Institute of Medical Sciences for Aberdeen University share the same site. Many opportunities exist to network with colleagues in secondary and tertiary care across Scotland. There are equally modern, well-equipped facilities in Ninewells Hospital and Medical School, Dundee and in Raigmore Hospital, Inverness.

Aberdeenshire boasts many picturesque towns and villages within easy commuting distance and provides access to an enormous range of outdoor pursuits, ranging from fishing to skiing. There are excellent facilities available for high quality education, both state and private. Excellent transport links ensure that Edinburgh and Glasgow are less than 3 hours by train and the Aberdeen airport has multiple flights daily to London and many other destinations across the UK and Europe.
Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training in Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from date of interview or eligibility for specialist registration (CESR).
