Borders General Hospital is a modern and well-equipped 284 bed DGH serving the rural Borders area in South East Scotland, approximately 36 miles from Edinburgh. Facilities include an operating theatre suite with five theatres all with anaesthetic rooms, one recovery area, an intensive therapy unit and purpose built day procedures unit. We have close undergraduate and postgraduate links with the University of Edinburgh Medical School and excellent on-site library facilities.
After an absence of almost 50 years, the Borders Railway has now opened, with train services to central Edinburgh running every thirty minutes (journey time 50 minutes approx). Tweedbank Station is a few minutes walk from the Borders General Hospital. On opening the railway Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth said The Borders railway brings so much promise for sharing and invigorating this most beautiful countryside as a place to work, live and enjoy. A relocation package/assistance with temporary accommodation in the local area, up to full Inland Revenue limits, is available for the successful candidate.
All new consultants are welcome to join the consultant development programme. The programme seeks to provide you with support for the development of leadership and management skills. There are also opportunities for professional coaching and mentoring – an established BGH consultant will be identified as a buddy in your first few weeks.
A special interest and experience in breast surgery is required for this post. The consultant team provide all aspects of surgical care in adults and children and current specialist interests include minimally invasive surgery, colorectal, breast, upper GI and bariatric, endocrine surgery and ERCP.
Candidates must hold FRCS or equivalent and must be fully registered with a licence to practice from the General Medical Council and registered on the specialist register or be within 6 months of expected date of obtaining CCT or equivalent.
